Where did Widget come from?
Widget is a Ryder's puppy, our cairn's full name is Harmony's McCairn Give It a Ryde.

Bred By: Kari & Jack Loken, Glenn Sergius and Frank Mesich

In 2015 we were looking for a puppy to add a second dog to our family, at the time we also had a westie - a beloved pet that lived with us for over 15 years since she was 8 weeks old. We had in mind another westie or a cairn terrier, and as we called around we came across Su-Mac Cairn Terrier Club. Irina called several members and Terri Radomski picked up the phone. Long story short, Terri invited Irina to come to St. Cloud, MN dog show to meet cairns and their owners from Su-Mac club and introduced Irina to Kari Loken after the competition. Kari Loken happened to have an 11 week old puppy-dog and after thorough vetting of John and Irina as potential owners, this puppy came to live with us in Minnesota.
When did you start showing him?
After visiting couple of dog shows, we considered showing Widget when he is 6 mo old, and with a lot of encouragement and help from Kari Loken we participated in the first ever dog show in Eau Claire, WI in 2016. Kari actually flew all the way from Colorado to meet us there and explain all the particulars of dog shows to a novice (Irina) and helped her prepare Widget for the ring. At his debut as a show dog Widget received Best of Winners ribbon both days in Eau Claire - we were thrilled and we were hooked! :)
The same happened in the next show in Fargo, ND (two more majors) and with the final title of Best of Winners at Hugo, MN 2016 Su-Mac Club Cairn Terrier Specialty, Widget has finished his conformation and became AKC Champion at 11 months of age.
